Summary Of Community Projects

BME United Limited, in collaboration with various local and national agencies, leads numerous community-based projects focused on empowering BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) groups and improving service delivery in Wolverhampton. These projects cover various social, health, education and community development initiatives. The community initiatives in Wolverhampton aim to address various social issues, particularly within the BAME communities. These projects are funded by diverse organisations, including The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Heart of England Community Foundation Covid-19 Fund, Black Country ESF Community Grant, Lloyds Bank Foundation - Social Enterprise Support Fund, Near Neighbours and others.

Collaborations with agencies like Wolverhampton City NHS Primary Care Trust, The Campaign Company and Strategies for Inclusion Ltd help recruit participants from priority neighbourhoods, support community volunteers and address barriers faced by BME communities in accessing public services. They organise training programs, events such as the Phoenix Park Festival and International Women’s Week and provide youth activities like volleyball, football and cricket sessions. Initiatives such as the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme and Dental Access Campaign aim to raise health awareness, while the Expert Patients Programme supports individuals with long-term health conditions through multi-language sessions.

Projects like the Information Advice Guidance and Advocacy Service (IAGAAS) promote democratic values and provide free support to BME communities. Employment-focused initiatives such as Way into Employment (WIN) and Youth Employment Skills (YES) offer training and support to help individuals from BME communities enter the job market. Efforts like the BME Women’s Futsal Festival engage women in sports activities, and various collaborations address issues related to housing, worklessness, education and health. BME United also works on projects that support voluntary and community groups, improve access to public services and provide culturally relevant assistance to those in need.

In addition to projects like the Enterprise Development Programme, Bob Jones Community Café and Community Vaccine Fund focus on promoting healthy eating, providing vaccine information and improving overall wellbeing through mutual support networks and volunteer initiatives. This allowed for these efforts to highlight BME United Limited’s commitment to addressing local challenges and empowering BME communities in Wolverhampton.
